EVENT HORIZON

EMMA GETS PUBLISHED! MAY 13TH 2005

Fabulous SF/Fantasy illustrator Liam Sharp has invited Emma (or her work at least) to appear alongside his and a plethora of other well known and downright famous artists in a forthcoming book. If you're not familiar with Liam's work, go browse the bookshelves of a local comic shop - he illustrated half of them!! Emma has produced in record time a portrait of Liam himself to appear in the book (which she's rather pleased with). This painting sees a return to Emma's old tricks of painting on decaying old bits of wood found in skips...

Here's a little review i found:

"Liam Sharp is one of Britain's and the world's most respected and diverse artists. Liam has worked for 2000AD in Britain and on the European publication Don Lawrence's Storm. In America Liam has completed successful and Award winning runs on The Incredible Hulk, Spawn the Dark Ages, X-Men, Man-Thing, Batman, Superman, Death Dealer and many more too numerous to mention."

The book (or MOOK as it would be called in Japan - a cross between a magazine and a book... but anyway...) will be called EVENT HORIZON and will be out in summer 2005 and will be available in bookshops here and in the US too! Upon its launch there is talk of panel appearances and booksignings at comic conventions, thoughts of which have Emma grinning to herself and rocking slightly... More details to follow shortly!

In the mean time keep up here!

MORE INFO: There's a great article here which explains the whole project, so now even Emma understands...

BIZARRE MAGAZINE

bizarre mag

If you are a reader of Bizarre magazine firstly shame on you and secondly you may have noticed this little photo...

You would not believe the attention it has attracted; from Italian writers wanting to make films with Owen to - wait for it - the Trisha Goddard show!!! Yes, it's true, Emma and Owen have filmed an interview with Trisha for her new, supposedly classier (it wasnt) channel 5 show! It will be aired in the next few weeks. "I did it for a laugh" says Emma. Emma is unsure of whether she actually wants anyone to watch it now though...

EDIT: The infamous Trisha episode as now been aired twice!

MODELLING CAREER

As you may know, Emma is a multi-talented creature (dilettante i believe is the word!) and now she can be seen on the ******* store website modelling a variety of clothing in (of course) her local cemetary. She was headhunted and propositioned when showing paintings at the State Of The Art Tattoo convention, and, never having been one to turn down an opportunity to cry "LOOK AT ME!!!" she rose to the challenge. Her disgraceful posing and preening can be seen here

THE WEDDING OF THE YEAR!

Emma has finally married the love of her life Owen Tooth after more than 8 years of unwedded bliss together.

As it happens, this will be the last show in this gallery space as Mr. Naimski has bigger plans and will hopefully be leading us on international adventures in the not too distant future!

Cover Girl and Boy

Emma recently discovered that she and her beau Owen had become the cover girl and boy for dubiously named Norwegian music fanzine "Rimfrost"!

First Solo Show in London

This is an open invitation to all of you to see Emma Simcock's first solo show in London. It promises to be a cracker, with loads of brand new, never before seen work painted especially for the show. See you at the Michael Naimski Gallery http://www.naimskigallery.com/ 6 - 29 May 2004.

**STOP PRESS!**

I have now been over there personally to give the paintings a good spring clean and hang them and I can honestly say I'm really looking forward to the show! It is really exciting to see ones work of many years all come together in one place. It's like Judgement Day - all my deeds are layed out side by side by side to be 'Judged' as it were. Well, I saw them as the halogen seemed to illuminate them from within and I'm satisfied!

It really is very satisfying to see them all together as they were intended. Even I've never seen them like that! I feel a sense of completion - like I'm ready to continue my work in and develop in new ways. Please watch with me to see what comes next; I hope it is a pleasant surprise for us all...

Art 2004 update

ART 2004 - The London Art fair is on at the Business Design Centre, Islington, N1 from14-18th January 2004. Find us at stand G33.

The paintings Emma will be showing are Cherie and 2 brand new, never-before-seen paintings (don't poke them as the varnish is probably still sticky!), Ophelia 5 and the very personal Mayonaka Ni Kawashita Yakusoku, celebrating Emma's engagement, painted during preparations for her forthcoming wedding.

Ophelia 5 is the most recent in the Ophelia series (as the title suggests!) but is the first to be based on actual underwater photgraphy Emma endured with the help of Arts Council funding. Click here to see the underwater fun!

The exhibition will be Cherie's first outing, and much to the delight of the real Cherie this image has been chosen to represent the Michael Naimski Gallery in the catalogue!

Funding

Emma has been fortunate enough to secure Arts Council funding for the expansion of her Ophelia series. This has allowed her to do a series of photoshoots underwater in costume to study the effects on herself, appearance and costume. Click here for details...

The results will be on show in Emma's solo show in London april /may 04 and with a bit of luck, elsewhere too. Ophelia is coming to a venue near you...

Art 2004

Emma has been selected to show work with the Michael Naimski Gallery at ART 2004 - The London Art fair. Apparently this is very high profile!

Heres what the Art Fair says about itself:

"Welcome
Buying contemporary art is not only exciting but really satisfying and fulfilling. Living with an original work of art is a way of seeing the world differently, seeing yourself differently, stimulating your senses and your mind. Whether you’re already a collector or still only thinking about it, the London Art Fair is the friendliest, buzziest, most enjoyable place to look at art, to learn about art and above all, to buy art. For our next show we’ve created an environment that’ll put you in the mood for shopping. Intelligent shopping.

For our next show we’ve created an environment that’ll put you in the mood for shopping. Intelligent shopping. As well as over a hundred individual galleries, there’ll be a specially designed Art House where you can see art in the context of a modern living space. There’ll be an Art Shop selling books, posters and prints. We’re also introducing a ‘personal shopper’ service providing expert advice on what to buy and where to put it. And if you feel you need to take a breather, there’ll be two Art Cafes where you can relax, meet friends or simply people-watch. "

The fair is held at the Business Design Centre, Islington, N1 from14-18th January 2004. Find us at stand G33.

UPDATE: A cursory look through the enormous list of artists exhibiting has just revealed that Emma will be exhibiting alongside such names as Warhol, Lichtenstein, Picasso, Yves Klein, Henry Moore, David Hockney, Frank Auerbach, Francis Bacon, Elizabeth Frink, Briget Riley, August Rodin and some guy called Damien Hirst...

Tattoos Again...

Emma has been invited to exhibit at the State Of the Art International Tattoo Convention again 17-18th July 2004 Apparently they liked her work so much they want Back in 5 Minutes back again next year plus new previously unseen paintings. And, as it is still a long way off they will most probably be paintings not yet even begun...

The response was fantastic, especially considering the punters were there to see/ have their art on skin rather than on canvas. She is expecting to return with more paintings next year (provided she isnt too busy preparing to get married!) Big hello to Woodys Tattoo Studio and the biker gang she joined very briefly...
