Leila Desborough

Leila was born in Sarasota, Florida, USA where she lived and worked for most of her life. In high school, she won numerous art awards and designed the region's official Easter seal. She graduated as an Advertising Designer from the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota.

In Sarasota, Leila won numerous local art shows including a number of Best in Show and Director's Choice awards. One of her sculptures went to the statewide Director's Choice awards at Disney World. Also in Sarasota, Leila participated in building two large concrete statues in community parks.

Leila came to Australia in 2000 where she has been starting over her life and career . She has sold numerous pieces in Australia including a number at the Sculptors Society's Darling Park exhibitions.

Leila was awarded high commendations in the 2001 Castle Hill Art Society Exhibition and the 2003 Mental Health Art Week Exhibition in Gosford.

Leila is a current member of the Sculptors Society, Central Coast Art Society, Central Coast Potters Society and the Central Coast Multi Arts Confederation.

The natural world is an important part of Leila's life and art.  She has been involved in animal rescue for many years and is currently a member of the local Wildlife ARC animal rescue group.  Animals are the main subject for Leila's artwork and she strives to communicate their intelligence and spirituality through her art. Of late, Leila has also been exploring mythological themes. Who knows what is next?
